Receiving Protection from God

Not long ago I heard a sermon about Peter walking on water, a well known story from the bible. I thought I would share my thoughts what it means to receive protection from the Creator. .  But first back to the story……

Jesus had just performed a miracle of multiplying 5 fish and 5 loaves of bread for thousands of people who were hungry while listening to him preach on the mount. Soon afterwards He asked his disciples to get in a boat and He would meet them on the other side of the mountain after He spent time in prayer with His Father.  So the disciples set out on the boat and Jesus up the mountain to pray.  While Jesus was praying the disciples fell asleep in the boat and woke to a terrible storm and were frightened.  Jesus appears on the water and the disciples were frightened because they thought they were looking at a ghost.  Of course Jesus says do not be afraid it is I.  So Peter then says Lord if it is you command me to come to you on the water.  Peter steps onto the water and starts towards Jesus but the wind was so strong and as FEAR takes hold of Peter he begins to sink.  Immediately Jesus takes his hand and says, “O you of little faith why did you doubt?”

The priest pointed out a couple of obvious things which I personally had never thought about when reading this story in the bible. First, Jesus’ disciples were fishermen.  Being in boats and fishing is how they made a living so why were they so afraid of a storm?  Second, when Jesus appeared on the water why would they assume it was a ghost and be afraid.  The disciples had witnessed many of His miracles already. At the end of the sermon the question was asked why is it that Peter was willing to walk on water to reach Jesus?  Peter trusted in Jesus to protect him.  He knew he had two options; choose being tossed around in a boat during a storm or walking on water to be close to Jesus.  So Peter chose Jesus.  He knew that wherever Jesus was he would be safe and protected.

I absolutely love the interpretation of this story.  For me one of the big takeaways in this story is the theme of protection. I love reading and listening to stories that demonstrate how Jesus is real and easily accessible in our life. He is not just a character in a history book but a very relevant prophet even today that taught us a Way of Life rooted in the frequency of love.  A life of love, peace, joy, hope and protection. This love and this Way of Life we all have access to by inviting Jesus to walk with us in all aspects of our life.

So what does it mean to receive God’s protection?

Most of what we need protection from and for are our fears that are born from the thoughts of an unprotected mind. When our thoughts and actions lose the connection with our heart and to our godself within this is when we step into fear.  Our mind can become punishing and critical and our thoughts can fill us with fear and anxiety.

Examples would be when we begin to look for our value or worthiness through outside sources such as social media, what our partner thinks of us, our boss, our friends, etc.  When we move away from the heart and look to external sources for validation it begins to create fear within our being, our energy field.  We begin to look at ourselves as unworthy.  We begin to judge our looks, our intelligence, our value through the critical eyes of others and not the loving eyes of God.  Our mind can become very critical and mean.  We begin to judge and compare ourselves to others and create a distorted image of ourself.  Our mind has stepped into FEAR  moving away from the PROTECTION of our heart and the Creator within our being.

During a divine healing session, receiving protections from our Creator is one of the many blessings that can occur in the loving and healing energy of the Divine.  This spiritual connection brings about oneness of mind, body, heart and soul.  Living in unity energy, love and oneness with God.  One of the many blessings that come through is protection of the mind.  Protecting the mind from some of the fearful and critical thoughts just mentioned and bringing all areas within us back under the loving protection of our Creator.  So when we view ourselves it is through the loving eyes of God.  Eyes that do not hold judgement or criticism.  The Creator is able to soften the view we have of ourselves and one another by bringing everything under His protection.  Moving fears back to love and restoring serenity and peace within.  That’s exactly the place I want to be all day, every day.
